Not sure about light on the brakes makes the fluid last longer. Brake fluid attracts moisture whether you are using the brakes or the truck is sitting in the garage and moisture in the fluid reduces the boiling point and reduction of the boiling point cause brake fade when and if the brakes are used aggressively.
Some moisture will get by the seals when sitting but more will get by when the brakes are in use (some may argue less water collects at operating temperature). Like tires, fluids have a shelf life - A vehicle that is not driven often will have to have items replaced due to aging rather than wear.
