Sorry for dumb question, but how do I pressurize the hot water system. By hooking hose up to the water line and turning it on ? I hope I didn't screw up the valves or anything when turning stuff back on .
Use YouTube for a visual : 'filling an rv water heater'
Think of the WH as a thermos bottle with a burner, an intake ( fill ) line and exit line to the faucets.
The WH drain plug, used when you need to empty the WH :
On the outside bottom portion of the WH you'll see a 1/2" threaded nut. Atwood uses nylon because it's an alum tank. Suburban uses a metal nut which is actually an anode rod because that tank is not aluminum.
Yes, hook up a hose to city water port. The water fills the lines and if you have the by-pass valves open, the water heater will fill. I open or lift the pressure relief valve on the water heater to allow air to escape from the tank as it's filling.
If you do not do that, the faucets will spit blasts of air and scare young children and timid adults. :E
Second method:
If you didn't have a pressurized city water hose you would have to use a few 5 gal water jugs to fill your holding tank and turn on the pump.
This second method to fill the lines and WH is to fill your freshwater holding tank and use the rv's water pump to pump water thru your system. You would do the same, lift the spring relief valve on the WH to allow air to escape.
Do yourself a favor, each time you use your water hose to fill your tank or as a city hose, run some water thru it. Insects tend to play hide n seek inside our hoses and they end up inside our tanks and lines. You should not hear any kind of crunching sounds when you drink water from an rv.
