We have a new trailer on order and the dealer wants to apply a coating that he claims will preclude waxing for 5 years. Has anyone had any experience with a dealer applied coating on a new trailer? This ia a clear polymer I'm told which I think is just a fancy name for clear enamel.Rowland

a waste of moneyi am a " car guy "i have been detailing my hotrods, sportscars , and daily drivers since 1964 .what works for me :i thoroughly wash my trailer after every trip.frequent washing is the solution for always having a rig you will be proud of .i have waxed my travel trailer (2002 komfort purchased new ) but the fact is frequent washing does more than the fancy waxes , polishes , and snake oil preservatives being promoted .an rv sits 90% of the time , out of sight .i spend my time using a clay bar , polishing , and waxing my daily drivers which get used 90 % of the time .the best thing for a trailer is to sit under cover even if it is a carport or 3 sided shed .the sun ( 4100 ASL ) is a killer of trailers and tires .each time the trailer heats up during the day (expansion ) and then cools down at night ( contraction ) the seams deteriorate a little .if you want to " wax " the quickest easiest product is " ICE by turtlewax .the advantage of "ICE" is that it requires little effort so you can apply it very frequently .

. I'd "pass" on the dealer's snake oil stuff as well.For me, I ask my wife or kids to help wax my TT. We use NuFinish (orange bottle) or McGuires Wax Cleaner and do the manual "wax on - wax off" task as well. Best part of all, we take our time and chat away. Last year my son helped me manually wax our entire trailer during 1 nice weather afternoon. During our togetherness time, he chatted about his girl friend, his college, his part time work and his future dreams. I got to know my kid better, trailer got a good polish and we both got some physical exercise. Win-win-win on multiple fronts. Glad I do my trailers and autos manually as well...Perhaps this might work for your kids and grad kids as well...

It goes on and comes off very easy. and it can be applied in direct sunlight.

normally i would opt out of these type things. I can say i was a noob about 5 years ago and said "yes" to the treatment. Not sure if this is the reason, but I can say my trailer looks brand new and I have never waxed it. The front cap has the decals peeling off due to sun but the fiberglass itself looks great and water still beads right up.

Use soaps other than dish. They are harsh and cut the wax off a TT. We use McGuires Carnauba, like the smell and goes on easy.

I don't normally recommend these products, however I have worked at dealerships and I decided to try Xzilon as I didn't have to pay for it. I did just the front cap of my 5th wheel and have a couple of observations. 1) I just did this last year so I can't say for sure if it will help with fading. 2.) The fiberglass on the cap is WAY slicker after applying Xzilon. 3.) Because it is so slick, the bugs just wipe right off!

When I bought mine I had the same offer. Something like $950 or more. I passed as I can buy alot of wax for that money. I also passed on the fabric protection and on the tire blowout donuts. I figured what's the chance of having 2 flats on one side causing loss of control. I know I can get to side with one flat and I do have a spare. All together they offered me about $2500 in extras which turns a good deal into a bad one. From others...good suggestions on wax. Mine is due.

I also opted out of it. Seems like a bunch of******to me. Mine was called Xylon or something.

I fell for this on a Honda car I bought new one time. I know they laughed all the way to the bank. In that case it was just a fancy car way and nothing special. Save your money.
