Dealer Direct Purchase?

I live in NC and I'm looking for my first TC. I've read pages and pages of threads here the last few days and one of them the OP said they drove to Oregon to pick up their new TC and saved the freight and taxes. Has anyone else done this? Which companies allow customer direct purchase?
