DEF in Ram

Would anyone know right off, what year the DEF Fluid was started in the diesel Ram's...was it
2011?
  • You're right, 2012 on the chassis cabs. Not sure what I was thinking - I researched this prior to buying mine to make sure I wasn't a guinea pig with the first year release. Ram had emission credits that allowed it to go without DEF longer the GM and Ford. All of them now have experience with these systems and it should just be refinements until the EPA kicks in tougher standards.

The Chassis trucks had it before the pick-ups. I think they started in 11 or 12. The pick-ups started in 13.
  • DEF is not a problem at all. There will always be those hesitant for change. Just add DEF about every 5,000 miles, a little more often if doing a lot of towing. For me that is about twice a year. Otherwise, I never think about it.
  • Hi, are the complaints about DEF or UREA being used in the new diesels overblown? I see many of you ordering new diesels and they all have this Diesel Exhaust Fluid and it isn't stopping you. But on the other hand I see there are some that are keeping their previous years vehicle, just so they don't have to get one with this DEF or UREA. Is it as bad as it is being made out to be?
    Thanks

  • If you're referring to urea, I believe it was 2013. We bought a 2012 Ram 2500 and the dealer said we got the last year where urea wasn't required.
