DEF in Ram

If you have 2014 Dually without Def, perhaps they are exempt, anyone know?

I am not sure what your objective is, but we recently switched from a 2012 Ram3500 4x4 crew cab dually (no def) to a 2014 same model (with def). So far we have seen better fuel mileage about 1 - 2 MPG better that we were getting on the 2012.

Is DEF required by the EPA? I thought DEF was a choice over Dodge's earlier DPF BluTec system. Dodge had a lot of problems with their DPF on the 6.7L so I was under the impression they changed to DEF as a result. DEF is not required, but it does not appear that there is a current engine that can meet EPA without using this technology. I'm all for simplifying the emission system if someone can figure out how to make a cleaner burn.

The DEF started in 11 Chassis Cabs.

My fill is right behind the cab and the tank sits under rear half of the crew cab.

I didn't see that in the early chassis cabs, are you sure? We just had a someone on the forum purchase a 2008 5500 and will need look closer at his truck. I don't see the DEF tank or fill on this 2008 CTD:

The Chassis Cab has used DEF since the 6.7 was installed in the medium duty trucks in 07.5.
