For anyone who is interested - I just posted an update on page 3 with my latest mpg after just refilling the DEF tank yesterday.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Just FYI in case anyone wants to know - I have a 2013 F350 4x4 CC LB dually with 3.73 gears pulling a 14,000 GVW 5th wheel and I recently started keeping track of when I refill with DEF. The truck has about 24,000 miles on it.It looks like I'm getting about 1,600 MPG with about 90% towing. That's running 55-60 mph. I've been in Wyoming, Colorado, and northern New Mexico since the beginning of July so I suspect the mileage would be a little better if I was on level ground and at lower altitude. Tim

Are you sure your math is correct? According to this article, you are getting incredible mileage. The article bases DEF usage with a vehicle getting 6 MPG of diesel, saying it will use about one gallon of DEF per 300 miles driven. I would assume that if your truck gets 12 MPG, your DEF usage should be about 600 MPG.Bruce

That is more than I get but I run a little faster, between 60 and 65. My trailer weights about the same. I run about a 1000 miles per gallon towing.

A friend of mine has the same truck as you but short box. He hasn't calculated his DEF MPG but told me it was WAY up there. I am blown away with your calculations and it doesn't seem possible while towing. My GM while empty gets about 1200 DEF MPG and 18 Fuel MPG. When towing my Fuel MPG is an average of 11 and my DEF MPG is in the area of 6-700. As fuel mileage drops...DEF consumption goes up. The more fuel you burn, the more DEF you need to drop emissions.

I have not actually measured mine but I worked out what I thought would be close...930 mpg.

I added 150 miles to the odo reading today and the gague is still just over 3/4. I have not added DEF since purchase. Dealer must have actually filled the tank.

Try going back and rereading the subject of this thread. You do understand that we're talking about DEF mileage and not diesel fuel mileage - correct ?

I go from Va to Ok and have to unload diesel onto a train because I make it. Bring your super truck to Va, hook on my 9500 lb TT and we'll go to Pittsburgh and back. If you get better than 10 I'll buy. Less, you buy. Meanwhile, you drive and I'll spread BS for awhile!

I am reviving this thread because I just refilled my DEF after getting the message that it was down to 1/2 full. It's a 5 gallon tank.

I refilled by adding a 2.5 gallon jug (Walmart). I could only get about 90% of it in just after the message came on, so I drove another 3-400 miles and then was able to add the remainder.

I ended up driving right at 5,000 miles and using 2 1/2 gallons, so that's 2000 mpg. I figure that maybe 40% of that mileage was towing.

Just posting this so anyone who is contemplating buying a new DEF truck won't be concerned about how long the DEF tank lasts.

I add it when it needs it and could care less how much it uses. It makes for a powerful, no stinking truck that can pull anything I want to.

I run about a galloon of DEF for every thousand miles I drive- 80k miles on the truck.
