You guys are pretty well confirming my fears. I saw the add proclaiming high pay and other benefits but the thing I am best at is math and I just could not make the numbers work with my understanding of the job. Unless I could get payloads both directions I just don't see it working as a source of income and I can find other hobbies that don't have the danger of being on the road or require me to be away from home so much.
You came to this decesion based on responses from well meaning folks, but did you ever consider calling the number and checking it out? From all the answers here, you have A LOT of good questions to ask them. Maybe the math doesn't work because you have yet to receive all the variables - which you are not going to get unless you dig into it yourself - I believe you stated "as I understand it". Good luck with it.
You have a good point but if it does work I expect to hear from at least one person who is doing it and is happy with the job. If CW follows these threads they could jump in and explain what everyone here is missing.
One thing that would make the job a lot more viable for me would be if they had a staging area around Louisville that a driver from Elkhart could deliver to and go home. I could run to Louisville, pick one up, come home with it, spend the night and take it as far as Montgomery or Atlanta without having to spend a night on the road. Northern Florida would require one night on the road.
I do know that many people jump into a new business (and this would be a private business) just looking at gross income and net expense and time. That is why so many startups fail. I may make the call but I sure would like to hear from one person that thinks it is a good job first and I do appreciate the insights of the contributors here. regardless.
