just to be clear...after you deliver, you can FedEx your paperwork back to the yard and go off duty in the general area of your delivery...but when you head to a dispatch, base yard or home, your logbook needs to show that return trip at some point...but there are creative ways around that rule too...
When you haul for these companies, you will have removable signs so you do not have to be "on duty" at all times. Without the signs, there is no reason for DOT to stop you as you are not under dispatch...
