This seems to be true in my case. Used a soft brush and spic and span on my roof. Upon rinsing, I saw specs of white stuff on the driveway. I'm no longer doing anything besides hosing off debris. My roof is made by Dicor, and the manual also states that no protectoants should be used, yet they sell rubber roof protectorent. I have also found their black streak remover to be useless. I also have downspouts, but the gutters on the awning side have been rendered useless due to the way the awning is attached - the brackets easily trap leaves and lots of caulk in the way.
