Did the EZ Flex upgrade

Just finished the Dexter EZ Flex upgrade to my Coleman 268RK. I will say it was not without its difficulties to do this job. We destroyed 2 bronze bushings before it was all done. I had to order another bushing kit to be able to finish the job. Upon very close inspection of the last and problematic spring eye we noticed it was not absolutely round and did not want to accept the busing with out fighting back. We licked it with a rat tail file and filed very carefully until the bushing went in.

The next challenge was putting in the shackles and keeping them square and straight while they went in. Patience is needed. Now let me say that I am not a rank amateur in the mechanic dept. and understand the whys and hows of doing a job like this. I caution anyone who is not confident in their abilities to do a job like this to let a shop do it. I had 3 of the shackles go perfectly and the 1 that shut me down until I got the new bushings.....and figured out exactly what the real issue was with that 1 spring....and figured out how to correct it.

The test drive went great so I give this upgrade 2 thumbs up. I could tell the difference right away in how my trailer handled and rode. I took it down the bumpiest roads in my area and it was very smooth. Bump jolts were not transferred to the truck like with the original set up. At least they were greatly diminished. Now its time to go camping.
  • I would have upgraded to Dexter's EZ Flex equalizers too. However my original equalizers are 4" tall, and Dexter's are only 2" tall. That would leave me with too little of tire clearance at the top of the wheel well. :(
  • I have had mine for about 12,000 miles and they look good. For a relatively inexpensive cushion and add wet bolts, it is a great upgrade. As you say, at times you need to have patience and go slowly. One bolt will nearly fall in but if cocked just a little the next one will put up a fight.
  • Anyone ever wonder what rv suspensions would work like if they put $49 more material into them in the first place?
