Dad had several Fords while I was growing up. I have fond memories of a western state tour we did one summer in a late 60s Ford Country Squire station wagon with a little trailer he built to haul all of our stuff, it had a built in kitchen and everything. Dads last Ford product was a late 70s or early 80s Mercury Zephyr, we called it the "trip 4", 4 door, 4 cylinder, 4 speed stick, that car was not the greatest. Ah good times.
My dad had a 65 Mercury Station wagon, it was HUGE, plenty of rear legroom, even when I was 6' tall. In 1978 dad bought a Ford Fairmont, same as the Zepher, but his was the larger 6 cylinder and auto 3 speed. Probably had a 2.92 rear axle, and was fairly gutless, but much more power than the 4 cylinder version. No A/C. Not much rear legroom either, but better mileage than the Merc with it's 390" V8!
I bought a 12 year old 1975 F-350 supercab, and kept it 8 years. My sister just sold it - with well over 350,000 miles on it! I rebuilt the engine at 290,000 miles on it.
My brother bought a 65 Ford wagon with a 352" V8 to push start his dragster! It was a lot of fun to camp in the pit area of the Bowling Green campground and race track!
Great memories!
Fred.
