The current (low) price of fuel in general has taken a chunk out of their popularity.
I don't buy the argument of less reliability of the current diesels. And with the required emissions, all the OEMs are able to get more power and better MPG than ever before. They must be doing something right.
Also get a kick out of the comments above "wives" not knowing what fuel to use. I know my wife does just fine filling our diesel truck when she needs to. She drove our first diesel as her DD for 3 years. In fact, around here, I probably see more women driving diesel pickups than men.
