If I'm going to spend north of $150k on a tow vehicle, it will have wings and tow a banner!

I like what I got for towing, but if I were to pick out one of those fancy cars it could not be a convertible and it would have a sunroof so I would have a place to drop in the pin of my 5er. The same guy who told me that would work also warned me to make sure I used one of those nylon friction disks or I would scratch the paint. He also said something about installing a parachute brake I think he called it :-)

Our 2014 Town and Country is the nicest new vehicle we have ever owned. I have no desire to get rid of it. When I drive this van with the leather, dual climate zones, indirect lighting at night...navigation...I can't believe we own something like this. And it's just a minivan...but what a minivan.

I bought an XL F350 thinking "Who needs nice interior...its just a truck." Had I bought a Lariat I would probably still have owned that beast. There IS something to be said about being comfortable inside your vehicle.

For us...we want to be comfy in our vehicle.

I have been toying with the idea of picking up a used Cayenne to tow my boat. I am not able or willing to spend anything like $168k for a SUV, but used they are priced reasonably, and are considerably more fun to drive than a standard SUV.

And all the performance attributes that work to make it a sporty car equate to a better tow vehicle (they don't just have more HP, they have bigger brakes, better suspension, etc).

Say what you will, Porsche makes a VERY nice car. And I don't think there is anyone cross-shopping this vs a F250.

A fully loaded XLT is just as nice as a Lariat/Limited. My X is what is considered an XLT Premium. the only thing it doesn`t have is heated seats and Auto Temp control. otherwise it has everything a limited has.

Regarding Lariat vs. XLT: I tend to buy the higher trim level vehicles. We average 20k miles per year for each of my wife and myself. We spend a fair amount of time in our cars. The marginal extra cost (20%?) spent really helps us enjoy that time and keep them longer. I have had plenty of base model trim cars too with leases over the years. While they always got me around like like the more expensive version, I never wanted to keep them long. That's me, not everyone. You have to figure out what you want assuming your budget allows for the Lariat.

Yep, I think I do. I have not really spent a whole lot on vehicles over the last 35 years so I think I will have a hard time spending a whole pile money on vehicles now but I think before I buy my next vehicle which will likely be an SUV in about a year, I will at least take a Porshe for a test drive.

I used to have the Cayenne Turbo, but replaced it with a BMW X5M.

Both are quite similar, and both would make a good tow vehicle for a 20-25' boat, but I wouldn't choose either for a travel trailer or any other high-profile trailer.

I have a variety of trailers that I tow - two different 25' wakeboard boats, a 27' power boat, a 22' toy hauler, a 26' enclosed cargo trailer, and a 24' flatbed open car trailer. All of them are in a similar weight range when loaded (around 7000 lbs) but the dynamics of towing are VERY different.

I would be quite comfortable towing any of the boats with the BMW or Porsche, mainly because of the low center of gravity, axles offset to the rear of the trailer, etc... But the cargo trailers and toy haulers are entirely different - the axles are near the middle and create a pivot point, and the large sides are much more susceptible to cross winds. The smaller SUVs wouldn't be my first choice for those. For the larger trailers I use my full-size trucks - Yukon XL Denali and a Duramax Dually.

Not impressed.... Until recently I had a 2006 Dodge 2500 that I converted to a Dually that had twin- 2- turbos aftermarket injectors, head studs, cp3 pump and EFI Live Tuning. It made 618/1480 rear wheel hp/torque all day long. And I had less than $60K in the whole thing.
The ONLY and I mean ONLY reason I sold it was I always wanted a semi truck, and my personal banker said I could have one if she could have a Smart car. Thats the life of a full-timer.....
