Diesel engines why not more available in smaller vehicles ?

Diesels have replaced Petrol/ Gas engines outside NA for Commercial vehicles, Pickups
In places like Europe price and fuel mileage are a big reason.
Outside of Europe, towing and fuel milage are main drivers
