Diesel engines why not more available in smaller vehicles ?

The Cruze and Equinox are both available with a diesel. I price compared, and you need to want a fully loaded vehicle to get the diesel.

The monthly lease payment increase could not be made up in fuel savings. If I was buying, it would take over 100k miles before I broke even.

Therefore, I bought a Malibu that gets great mileage, was less expensive, larger than Cruze, and is extremely efficient.
