I know, and most gasoline powered vehicles get worse mileage in the real world than they do on the EPA tests because the EPA drive schedules is only designed to go up to 60 mph( Dynamometer Drive Schedules ) and these drive schedules were made to get the most out of a gas engine. This is why most diesel engines generally do better in the real world than their EPA rating and gas engines don't.
Also, my 2.0L diesel actually pollutes less CO2 and NOx than the 2.0L gas version of my car so I am not sure where the "can't get them clean" statement comes from.
