What is funny about this is that you have the US oil industry to thank for that. Natural gas is too cheap for a company to spend the money to drill for it alone. It is so cheap in fact that many oil wells in remote areas just light a flare and let it burn off as it is coming out of the oil well because it isn't worth the cost to transport it. If the oilfields go away then so does most of the natural gas because it is too expensive to get out of the ground for how little it costs. It needs the oilfields for it to be worthwhile to extract in many cases.
