Diesel engines why not more available in smaller vehicles ?

Looks like Porsche is axing all diesels from its line up:

Basically because of a drop in demand.

Looks like hybrids will take up the slack. Their electric motors can provide the massive low-end torque that turbo diesel drivers are used to, plus they work much better in city driving with regenerative braking.

Prolly not so efficient at highway cruising though ...
