Hey All,Looking at stepping up to a new truck and a diesel for the first time. I am looking for guidance on exhaust brakes and any differences between GM, Ford and Dodge?Thanks in advance!

I don't think the Ford was very strong until the last couple of years when the made some changes to the engine. Maybe 2015? As of now I think they all work well. I like the two settings the Cummins has. Towing in the Rockies, Cascades and Sierras out west it has worked really well to the point I only need to brake in situations where I'm approaching a corner and need additional slowing - just going down a grade it'll hold speed by itself. I generally use it in auto mode along with tow/haul.

I'd say all three are very effective. However all 3 have some aspects the same and some operational aspects of use that are unique to each.I've riden in ford and dodge's and own a GM. Are they different? yes, I notice some differences in how the engage, etc. However I'd say effectiveness is pretty comparable. And you'll love it.

Had an 01 3500 RAM 5 speed pre DEF pre Exhaust brake. Had a pacbrake installed. Loved it.Upgraded to 2014 5500 RAM automatic (have to special order stick shift). was skeptical about exhaust brake although it comes already installed. Automatic's with exhaust brake are not as good as with stick shift... however... I had the tow / haul package installed and TOGETHER tow / haul ON and exhaust brake it works wonderful on new automatic transmission truck. Happy with automatic transmission so far and pulled 5th wheel trailer in colorado mountains and have to use manual brake very little :)
