Howes user here. The original owner said that is what he used and a little research showed that it is apparently the most popular commercial additive in my part of the country, at least by the shelf display size allocated to it.
I thought the main advantage to an additive like Howes in the north was the ability to run #2 diesel all year long, without gelling, and the moisture separator additive enhancement. To take advantage of this, drain the fuel filter/water separator every 3000 miles or 3 months, especially during drastic temp changes that could cause condensation in the fuel tank. Probably the most important thing is to buy fresh, reliable fuel from a busy dealer.
