Modern gassers scare me just as much as diesels when it comes to repair cost.
One has to consider that
anything you buy nowadays is so complicated and computer controlled that no one can fix it themselves.
We are all at the maximum skill level allowed just to be able to change our own oil and filter on these newer machines.
So they all, gas or diesel, will require a trip to the dealership for anything to fix. And add on the shop labor rates (hate to even guess here, suppose nearing $100/hour) which is high for us, as the consumer, but making a liveable wage for those working in the garage, then any repair becomes an expense we wish to avoid.
So buy whichever you believe will work best for you, and do not worry about repair costs as it will be a toss up no matter what engine you end up with.
