I currently have an 06 Duramax and love it. I bought with 25K and now have 130K with some problems but nothing earth shattering. Maint. costs are not that much different.
If I bought new today I'd probably go with one of the newer gassers mainly because I don't have the 5th wheel I did when I bought/needed the diesel (and I can't imagine tying up 50K+ in a depreciating asset).
It really just depends what YOU need the truck to do.
