A gas truck will pull a 7600 lb trailer the speed limit on any interstate grade in the east. It might run the rpms up there to do it but not being able to maintain speed will not be a problem.
A diesel truck for many users will not be a better financial choice.
that being said if you want a diesel get one. However if you aren't afraid of an engine running in the upper half of the tach then a gas truck will get that trailer anywhere you need it go be and costs a lot less up front.
