I heard someone ( a very young car salesman )say something about having to put in "$300" worth of additives to protect/clean the exhaust system? I was pretty hesitant to put any faith in Juniors opinion, as it was clear that he was clueless about everything. Any truth to that?
With DPF & DEF systems in the 2011 and newer models, I wouldn't be puttin' anything in the fuel or anywhere else that the manufacturer didn't require.
DPF is a function controlled by the engine computer and uses fuel to accomplish (and isn't a constant process). SCR is done the minute the engine is running and involves the injection of DEF (urea) into a noble metal catalyst media that is part of the exhaust system. Turns the oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust into water and less harmful gases. Maybe he was talkin' about the DEF fluid, which typically lasts an oil change interval and only costs about $3/gal, cheaper if you get it from a bulk dispenser at a truck stop.
