GA1dad, hard decision huh? Personally, after I got my first diesel, a 2000 7.3, used, I bought it to pull my 7500# trailer. WHAT A TREAT! Yes, my 5.4l gasser pulled it, under protest, but my diesel is happiest when it has a load on it. Bought a 2012 Cummins and WHAT A BIGGER TREAT! The additives were for the older model engines, before they were designed for the new fuel. The owner's manual specifically warns against additives. I now pull a 9500# TT, get 11+ MPG and only turn @ 1800 rpm @63mph. Way better than 2800 with gas. Price of fuel is higher, but COST is less. Filter changes? Just replaced my fuel filter in my driveway in about 20 minutes. Oil change is every 6-7000 miles. Got rid of my 7.3 with original glow plugs and injectors @ 130,000 miles. IMHO, for towing, nothing but diesel.
