won't even get that far. it won't take but a few miles for the system to realize the urea % is low, and trigger a "poor def quality" warning, and about 100 miles later start limiting speed to 55 mph and within a few hundred more miles limit speed to 5mph.
Let's see spend $XXK on a truck and fuss about spending $25 every 5-8K miles for DEF fluid. Wait till he gets the bill for dumping water in the DEF fluid tank. That's 1/2 of a cent/mile!!! And he's probably spending around 30 cents/mile for diesel if he's towing
With GM the DEF fluid fill is FREE for the first 2 years/24K miles.
My advice: DON'T take his advice on vehicle issues!!!
