It probably isn't important to some, but my neighbor has a Ford single wheel one ton that he frequently uses for heavy towing (big horse trailers, big flatbed hauling hay, etc).
Well, it WAS a Ford. Now it is a Fummins. Yep, he got sick of having engine and transmission problems, and stuffed an HO Cummins with 6 speed manual tranny out of a Dodge in his Ford F350!
He loves it!
I think he got the idea from seeing me driving around in my old '94 Dodge Ram 3500 CTD, with 276,000 miles on it, and no troubles.
If I ever get a diesel again, there is no doubt in my military mind which one it will be, and it will not be a GM or Ford product!
However, YOU should get the one that YOU like and YOU can afford that will do the job that YOU need done.
