We have the rear awning on our TC and will sit under it during rain (Birch Bay over President's Day was our last trip). Whether you get wet depends on which way the wind is blowing. We had the TC off the truck, so the cab over also made a covered seating area. If we had a side awning, it would be wider than the one we have in the rear so that may provide better coverage. Once the wind picked up, we retracted the awning and continued to sit outside under the cab over. We have a 10'x10' popup shade that is more versatile in positioning than a fixed awning but it also does not do well in wind.
