Direct injection injects fuel directly into the combustion chamber. Multi-point injection injects the fuel ahead of the intake valve. Both use a throttle butterfly, the newer systems use a "throttle by wire" where the butterfly is controlled by the engine computer and not by a direct mechanical connection to the gas pedal.
And I can't say I notice any difference in engine braking on the EB vs my old Envoy. Sometimes the programming is too smart for my liking, it'll downshift to hold a set speed when on Cruise or Tow-Haul. On a mild downhill I'd rather let the speed run up a few MPH for the next hill.
