Disadvantages of running a 65PSI vs 80PSI E Tire?

The 65psi specs are below. It's the only one in the price range and the width I want with a decent capacity. Plus, there's a rebate currently running AND my tire guy says he has them in stock. Just wondering what, if any, downside is to this compared to the 80 psi tire I'm running with a lower 3640lb. rating?

I've always run 80psi E tires. I'll stay with them.

    I've decided on the Cooper Evolution M/T E10 4060lbs. @80

    Thanks for the replies.

I've run Cooper tires on a lot of my vehicles over the years and never had a single complaint about any of them.

Are you saying the MAX PSI is 65? I didn't know there were E tires that ran less than 80. But there is a lot I don't know.

Yes. Anything over 295 metric width in 'E' is @65psi max.

My current tires are also Coopers. ATP's. Very happy with them and quiet considering the pattern. Problem is they've discontinued them. So I've been researching and comparing numbers for the better part of 2 days. My eyeballs are about to pop out.

My last set of Cooper tires were their Discover RTX.

They always quit making what ever it is that you like one week before you're ready to buy more.

    Tire shopping is fun. LOL
  • aside from everything else, they are mud tires, so they are going to be loud on the highway, less than ideal traction quality in "other road conditions" like snow, gravel, pavement etc. faster wear and so on. but if your ok with all those then go for it.

But, if you take a set of solid tread block mudders and sipe them, they become the swiss army knife of tires.
IMO, siped mudders are about the best "all conditions" tire, especially in mountainous areas where one might experience "all conditions" on a regular basis. They wear considerably better than dedicated snow/ice tires, they have most of the traction of dedicated snows. Can stud most of them if that's your thing. Long wearing, generally hard compound tread. Best in mud and best in general off road duty.
Yes they are louder and sap a little fuel mileage compared to pavement princess tires, but that's the only downsides, IMO, unless you own a truck that eats front tires and don't align the front end.
  • Not overly concerned about aggressive profile. I use the truck off-road, unloaded far more than hauling the camper, particularly the last couple years. Only put 20K on the odometer in the last 6 years. It's not a daily driver.

There are several out there. Noice in the various sizes here for pro comps https://www.procompusa.com/tires-product-details.aspx?pt=101509&pl=111330
    For example,
    295/60R20 are 80 PSI and 3750 lbs
    305/55R20 are 65 PSI and 3195 lbs
    35x12.50R20 are 65 PSI and 3195 lbs
    37x12.50R20 are 65 PSI and 3750 lbs

All are load E and Q speed with a 60,000 mile tread warranty
