I am still a working stiff. I have done the 8-10-12 hours drives but I have learned to take a more relaxing approach. I used to do Hilton Head or Myrtle beach in one day. However lately I take a more leisurely approach and do 2 days. I'm not as worn out when I arrive.
I understand vacation time is limited but I've learned 8-10 hours driving is not vacation it's work vs. splitting the trip into 2 days and actually relax during the journey.
I try to drive 6 hours or 300 miles at a time.
I can drive farther if need be but for the most part I avoid the road warrior approach. I have also learned to shorten the distance of my destinations to maximize my vacation/relaxation time.
While I agree Myrtle Beach maybe the best RV camping on the Ocean is the 2 day journey worth it vs. the 2-3 hour journey to O.C. MD, NJ beaches or DE beaches?
I actually enjoy the journey and the drive, but I'm starting to believe closer to home is generally better in the long run.
If 2 destinations a relatively the same I'm gravitating to the closer local spot!
Why spend extra time behind the wheel? Why spend more on gas for basically the same experience? In the end its family time that matters, so I have shortened my drive time when possible.
