We are retired and usually start about 9:00am at the latest and stop about 3:00pm. This gets us into campgrounds early enough to get a site without the need for reservations and still have plenty of time to relax a bit and look around before the next days drive.

We have been doing exactly the same thing and some of our trips are several thousand miles and several months and for those we like to have a day of rest about every 3 days of traveling with 4 days on the road the max before stopping for at least a day.
