DIY Bumper

We usually run with the tailgate on. Our TC fits on the truck with a few inches to spare on tailgate, but wanted 3" more inches in order to have a safer step. A few times we have almost slipped off tailgate when it's wet.

DH found an unused running board set from a 1984 Chevy. He attached one to the platform we use (need it for he TC to clear the roof of the truck).

Our Westin Truck ladder bolts right on the new bumper and now we leave the tailgate at home.

EDIT: The tan "diamond plate" you see on the platform is vinyl. It keeps the TC from sliding on the wood. It's stapled down, but it droops between the tops boards.... it works great. It's made for garage floors.

  • The angles of the photos are misleading, the bumper is centered on the platform and looks centered when viewed from directly behind the truck. There is a bump out on the right side of the TC for the shower area which didn't photograph well.

  • Right side, "unfinished" edge. This might bother some people, but frankly, it looks fine to me LOL. The running board was free so I'm not going to complain.

EDIT: OMG, I just saw how dirty the camper is! Sorry. It's only been uncovered for a few weeks and out for one weekend trip. Crazy how dirty they can get. It was just washed when we uncovered it.
