to me financial sense for vehicles I drive is near the very bottom of the criteria list. Decades ago gas engines weren't up to the job for heavy towing, today with the right choice give a good alternative to a diesel for towing. Pick which you want.
We've gone with diesels on both our trucks, I'd do it again, could care less about the financial aspects, it's which we like the most.
And in fact for us there are few decisions where financial sense is the deciding factor. In some it's more important than others, but generally for us it not much of a deciding factor.
