I've owned both gas and diesel so I have no axe to grind with either. My old trailer towed fine with a gas engine and towed WAY better with a diesel. I tow in the mountains a lot so that turbo really helps things out where a gas engine gasps for air.
My chart would look something like Shiner made...…..except better.
I have no DEF so I save that. Ching!
My Dmax takes 10Qts and not 12 so my cost to change oil is less than $50 bucks. The oil light goes off about every 10 to 12K so less than $50 a year for me to change oil. Ching!
My truck has 112,000 miles on it and the only thing I have done besides change fluids and filters is 3 glow plugs at less than $20 bucks apiece. Ching!
My trucks fuel filter light goes off about every 15K and only has one so about $35 bucks a year. Ching!
Like Shiner said, diesel around my area was about .25 cents a gallon CHEAPER for years and years! BIG, BIG CHING! (If the stupid Gov of my state wasn't an AH and raise the fuel tax to the moon diesel would still be less expensive.)
Yes, "my" diesel is less expensive to run than it's gasoline counterpart.
PS. One other thing to consider is that "some" diesels have more HD parts in them. For instance. "My" diesel has a Allie transmission in it. The gas counterpart would have a GM built, less sturdy transmission in it. The chances of my tranny going out in the lifetime of my truck is very, very low. The one with the GM built tranny is so, so.
