I was never concerned one bit about recouping any extra cost with the Cummins. Heck I burn way more fuel with my 6.4 vs 6.7 but it's a heck of a lot easier to live with on a DD basis for my short trips all winter. 6 years in a diesel was enough for me.
And constant short trips is a solid reason for not buying a diesel, however, citing "financial sense" as a reason when you would happily spend more on a 6.4L over a 5.7L than you would with a Cummins diesel over a 5.7L is not. I am not saying this to you per say, but rather to everyone who keeps bringing up "financial sense" as a reason they didn't buy a diesel as if they have some inferiority complex and feel the need to justify their purchase decisions because deep down they want one.
