Do I need an Equlizer WDH?

We just purchased a 2005 TT from a friend so we know it was well taken care of. Because its been sitting for a few years it is currently at a RV service center getting inspected. DH pulled it there with his 2500 Dodge work truck which is not our TV because its a company truck and we don't own it.

Specs: TT: 21 ft, Unloaded vehicle weight: 4800, I don't know the tongue weight.
TV: 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, 5.7L, V-8, towing capacity 7200#, Max tongue weight 720, wheelbase 115 inches, Max payload 1130.

I admit I don't know what all the numbers mean but I know you do so I'm hoping you can help me out.

The WDH is included and has sway bars but they're rusty. Our friend had a Nissan Titan he towed with. Do you think we should just get a new WDH and bars, an Equalizer or use what we have if the service place sets it up.

On a side note, we owned a 28' Trail Cruiser about 10 years ago that we towed with a Suburban, and a Durango so we have some experience but its been awhile. Now, there's so much more info available that I'm more confused than ever....sometimes ignorance is bliss!

We are very light packers and don't tow with the water tanks filled. We only add our clothes, light weight dishes, cookware, and linens. No toys, pets or kids (kids are 20 and 24 and have better things to do than camp with Mom and Dad!)

Our maiden voyage will be from California to Michigan (not sure on the route yet as Colorado is intimidating) and returning via the UP, North Dakota, to Yellowstone and home.
  • Oh, one more thing...any recommendations for mirror extensions? Can't use the CIPA sleeve type because of the turn signals, heat, and blind spot warning in the mirrors.
