You don't need to BUY the camper first. Just look at enough of them to get an idea of what you WANT to buy. Hard side or pop-up? Long or short? Wide or narrow? Wet bath or dry bath? Basement or no basement? Also consider where you want to take your rig. A DRW can go off-road but for the more extreme off-roading you'd be better off with a SRW. Of course the answer to this question will also affect your choice of camper as the more extreme the off-roading you want to do the lighter you'll want your camper to be and with a lower center-of-gravity. Once you've narrowed down your camper options you can decide what size and type of truck to get. Good luck with your hunt!
