So today I brought my Ram dually in for rear tires. The shop wanted to upcharge me $20.00 per tire because they said changing rear dually tires requires more work. When I told him to cancel my order the fee was waived. When asked what the extra work was he said Dually’s have double lug nuts. My reaction was Um, no. I said that doing the four rear tires was easier than four tires on a 3/4 ton. 32 lugs to remove for tire from a 3/4 ton. 16 for the rear on a 1 ton dually. What are your thoughts?

He was correct when talking bigger trucks, but haven't seen that on my last three Dually 3500 series trucks.

You're probably correct, the Big Truck I had was a 1967 used Lumber Company truck.

In times past, he and you where right. But for at least a quarter century most big truck have had hub-piloted wheels, no longer have the inner/outer nuts you refer to.

Sounds like an extra fee for profit. I would find a honest shop and spread the word about what I was incorrecty told.

OP, shop was just trying to get extra $ out of you. This is fairly normal. Not right, but SOP for a lot of shops.

Not a valid charge.

OP be sure to get your front aligned to 1/64" toe. This stops the outer edge "Stepping".

ONLY rotate the fronts side to side keeping rotation the same. YES than means dismounting the tires from wheels. Puts both outside edges on the inside.

I have 44k on my DRW tires and all 6 measure 5/32" tread depth. Rears never get touched.

Run 80 psi fronts all the time and 30 psi unloaded rear and inflate to what the chart dictates per your rear tires weight plus 5psi.
