As said-it is the charger that makes difference in battery life.
I had high-tech inverter/charger in my motorhome and cheap golf-cart batteries lasted for 11 years and I remember adding water only twice in this period.
Cheap chargers/controllers can go way above 14V and that left on for long time - will "boil" the batteries.
You want controller that maintains the batteries about 13.5v
