Sorry calling BS on this as far as the RV's propane having anything to do with it. Unless this is some weird design of RV I have never seen where the fuel filler was RIGHT next to the fridge vent and even then you would basically need to spray the side of the RV with gas to generate enough fumes.
The fridge/water heater burners are usually 4 or more feet off the ground and as I already mentioned the amount of gas that needs to be spilled to create a flammable mixture in such an open area as a gas station is immense.
