Do you understand vintage TC insurance? I sure don't...

Admittedly I have a unique situation: a classic, restored truck camper. Its a 1967 Avion.

I have read the Airstream Forums where people were assured by their insurance agent that their restored trailers were covered by their auto insurance. Unfortunately that was not entirely accurate.

Most of the readers on this Forum have newer TCs where the market value or Bluebook value is well known. But establishing the value for insurance purposes for my vintage TC is problematic to say the least. For instance, I have read about "agreed amount" of value for insurance. In that case you (1) state the amount of the insurance based on comparable TCs, (2) have an appraisal by a recognized appraiser, and (3) be backed up by receipts for the restoration work done on the camper.

All this sounds OK at first. The problem seems to be that the moment of truth comes at the time of a claim. You have to "prove" the value of the vintage TC regardless of the "agreed value". Otherwise the insurance company will offer you "market value". In my case that would be far less than my investment or potential sale price.

I know that antique cars have found an insurance niche. But it may be that the market in vintage RVs is too small.

So, does anyone have any wisdom on this. I especially would like to hear about people who had a claim on a vintage TC and how it was handled.
