I'm thinking the truck is struggling to stay cool with no load and it's not ready to pull a trailer up and down hills.
Or is the hot AC CONDENSOR creating more heat than the airflow can disperse?

My '03 Dodge/Cummins has done it since new. I even questioned the Dodge truck dealer. He did a flash and it did help some.
Our clutches are electrical controlled by the computer I think from '03 and up. Temps around here can hit 110-115 degrees and yes the big 9 blade fan sounds like a hoover craft.
See your dealer if a flash is possible.
