Dodge 6.4 hemisphere vs Chevy 6.0

Never drove the dodge 6.4 but have the 5.7. Still like the GM 6.0, like others said, it's very reliable and gets the job done. I think that GM will boost the liters in this engine or HP/TQ in the 6.0. However most agree that it's been underrated from the factory from the beginning. I will say the new dodge trucks are nice. But I have zero plans in changing anytime soon. if something happened to my current truck I would replace it with the same as I have now, just hard to find the same color.....

I disagree with you here...how is it "neglecting" the 6.0 simply because they haven't given it a massive overhaul? The 6.0 is a solid performing engine with a proven track record. It gets respectable gas mileage and makes respectable power numbers. It still sells well enough to be a competitive product. That isn't neglecting it... that is making an intelligent decision not to spend money on R&D to fix something that isn't broken...

When was the last time you drove up the Ike Gauntlet? What does it matter on one single roadway out of the entire country? People that throw out numbers from one single test on one single roadway that 90%+ of RVer's will probably never drive is asinine.

Regardless, the Ram 6.4 was pulling heavier weights and was computer restricted. If you read the FULL article, Ram made a comment about how the transmission is controlled to act that way in drive, but if the driver manually selected a different gear it would have responded better.

All that is inconsequential if you... like the overwhelming majority of RVer's... don't drive that road very often.

Its funny... people that have driven this stretch of road always talk about taking that roadway because its such a beautiful stretch of roadway. Well if that's the case, WHY IS EVERYONE SO BENT OUT OF SHAPE ABOUT DRIVING THROUGH IT SO FAST?

Better gas mileage thru cylinder deactivation is complicated and only useful if the truck is empty.

Yes, there is one hill in North America where the GM may be faster to the top by a minute or so because of the programming of the Ram's PCM. In every other situation (read pickuptrucks.com's comparison) the Ram outperforms the GM by a wide margin.

The 6.0L has been slightly massaged over the last 15 years. Power is lacking compared to Ford's 6.2L and Ram's 6.4L. But it does perform quite well and is dead reliable under the severe duty that HD trucks require. If GM thought the aluminum 6.2L could handle the intended uses in HD trucks,it would have been done a long time ago. Sales/marketing would love to advertise the additional 100hp. Until that or any other solution is offered by GM, the powertrain is reliable and adequate enough to have the highest gas % of the three brands.

Can't compare to the Dodge, but I do think they have neglected the HD powertrain compared to the 1/2 ton. More than the deactivation, the 1/2 tons get Direct injection, variable valve timing and a few other goodies. I don't know why they don't replace the 6.0L with the 6.2L in the HD trucks. Be a sweet setup.
