Does anyone make 'em anymore?

I need a one-man camper for boondocking and don't want to bother with any inverter or converter, generator or solar. I'd just as soon not bother with electricity at all.
Water from a tank that is pressurized with a hand or foot pump. Heat from a radiant, propane heater. Refrigeration from a manually lit and controlled propane refrigerator. Propane mantled gas lights for illumination and a stove for cooking.
All the trailers I see today are chocked full of power-needy appliances. Even the teardrops have microwaves and electric coolers. What's a boondocker to do? Having a TT custom built is out of this ol' retired school teacher's means.

  • Most manufacturers will build the interior to meet your needs. The dealers tend to order fully loaded units because that is what the majority of their customers want. If you go to a long standing RV dealer, especially a mom and pop shop you should be able to order what you need.

There are companies that make cabinets which have a lot of what you want to go into vans or cargo trailers.

Another option is to look for a good used 50' or 60's trailer which won't have all the bells and whistles. You can find some in near showroom condition on craigslist, facebook marketplace or RV trader.
  • convert an enclosed utility trailer. Good luck finding a fridge with no controller though. everything else should be easy to come by.
  • "Old school" is fun for about 20 minutes. NObody makes them because you are nearly the only customer.
