Your truck probably already has way more alternator than you could ever use.
When I had a truck camper, I upgraded the truck's wiring to 8 gauge up to the 7 pin plug, but I saw no need to use a separate plug. I was trying to reduce voltage drop so as to increase charge rate.
I'd spend your money adding solar and more/better batteries before I'd waste my time with a second plug that will make a minimal difference. 8 gauge wire at 13.7 volts or solar at 14.8, which will put more current into the batteries?
