I have towed a 6x12 cargo trailer (loaded to 3500+ lbs) extensively with my similarly powered Highlander. I think you would find the Pathy to have enough power.
However, be sure to search the Nissan forums first for owners' experiences with the CVT. When I looked 3 months ago (because I was considering the new Pathfinder to replace my HL), I read many complaints about transmission 'judder' or apparent slippage when rolling at about 2-3 mph and then trying to accelerate hard. Rather scary when trying to pull through an intersection.
I am now planning to buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee this summer.
