Does diesel fuel go bad

I just bought a diesel truck and am contemplating installing an auxiliary in bed fuel tank. I am wondering if there is a shelf life of the fuel that is in the tank ? Does it go bad or do I have to use it within a certain time. My truck is garage kept.....

I've used diesel that was over 6 years old. It does not go bad but bad stuff can grow in any water in the bottom of the tank. OP, keep the tank full and use it at least once a year and you'll be fine.
  • We installed our 55 gal inbed fuel tank when our truck was new so we could enjoy the tank for a long time. It has been a great product for us. We buy when we want to and not because we need to. Also it allows us to have fuel from a different station incase of bad fuel during a fill up.chevman
  • Nope, we have vehicles on the ranch that have sat for more than 5 years and they started right up and ran with NO ill effects. The only exception today would be bio-diesel, which like ethanol gas, is pure junk and will cause many problems, but pure diesel is fine. We are NOT saddled with bio-diesel here, so we don't use any additive, but if you have to use bio-diesel, then just keep some algaecide handy and use it if you plan on it setting for an extended time.
