Mines charging I just want to know if it will over charge. Cuz I took the battery out to check it and all the water was gone! I don't want to buy a new battery and over charge it as well. Although I added new distilled water and Epsom salt and the battery charged fine on my smart charger and showing good volts and no dead cells.
Just because the battery charged doesn't mean it will have any real capacity left.
Additionally when the water has been boiled off like that there is a tendency for the plates to short..
You DON'T want to be around a battery that shorts.. Things get pretty ugly in a hurry.
Get a replacement battery and forget about the old battery.
Now, to prevent boiling in the future, what you can do if you don't want to spend money on a three stage converter is simply turn off the breaker for the converter when not camping. You will need to disconnect the battery or remember to run the converter every week for a day or so.
Alternate to manual turning off the converter is to install a mechanical timer.. Set the timer to power the converter for a hr each day and if you have a 7 day timer you could set the timer to run the converter once a week for 12 hrs..
Even with a three stage converter you MUST check the water levels in the battery.. They will still use water but at a significantly reduced rate.
The only real advantage of a three stage converter is the bulk charging and the desulfination modes.. Bulk mode allows for quick charging and desulfination helps keep the battery in top condition..
